a Family
A air
T
eaching kids to share is an important—and
challenging—responsibility of parenting.
Sharing is more than politeness. It helps
your child build character and recognize
and take into account the needs of others.
You can help your children appreciate what they
have and learn to give back. Include them in a family
discussion about donating to charities, such as the
hospital foundation.
Children of any age can begin learning how they
are connected to the larger community and how
their actions can make a di erence. Especially as they
reach school age—about 6 years old—kids begin to
develop more concern for other people, according to
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Encourage this natural development by involving
your children in charitable giving and volunteer
activities. Kids who develop a sense of purpose and
contribution tend to grow into more resilient adults,
reports the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Start by modeling a charitable attitude. Talk about
your own reasons for supporting our foundation,
and discuss what the hospital can do with your
family’s donation.
